STARR LEADERSHIP IS 1 YEAR OLD! |
One year ago, I created my business, registered it with the state and federal government, secured my website, and began opening business bank and credit card accounts. I can’t believe it’s been a year already! As I’ve been reflecting on the past year, I've come a long way and learned a great deal. I thought I’d share what I learned.
Good work yields more work. Consulting and coaching is a referral-based business, and I’ve been fortunate to have an extensive network of supporters who have helped promote my new business. The consultants and coaches I interviewed in preparing my business plan all said you work hard to secure your initial set of clients, and then at some point, business begins to fall into your lap (assuming you delight your clients). I found that hard to believe, but it’s true. Good work yields more work. My business growth has not been linear. I will add a corollary, delivering good work during my nearly 30 years in corporate America, which has enabled this extensive network of supporters to be willing to recommend me. So, regardless of your future dreams, Do Good Work in the moment.
BUSINESS UPDATE
Things have been busy at Starr Leadership Group, and we have some exciting news to share! Kim has partnered with long-time colleagues Andy Robbins and Larry Shoop, as well as Mary Gavin, at Oyster. Andy was my coach at Intel ten years ago, |

and when he left Intel to start his own business, I told him my dream was to work with him. Andy also introduced me to the Institute for Generative Leadership, which changed my life professionally and personally. We make a great team, combining the best of Intel and IGL with our diverse experiences, Larry's exceptional communication and executive presence, storytelling expertise, and Mary's extensive coaching background. We have inspiring clients, and I get to coach, teach, and facilitate workshops! I'm in my happy place! Don't worry, Starr Leadership isn't going anywhere!

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
By now, I assume most of you are aware that March was Women's History Month, and March 8th was International Women's Day. I'll admit I am conflicted this time of year. On the one hand, it wasn't that long ago that women couldn't vote, couldn't buy a house independently, or apply for a credit card, among other limitations. |
On the other hand, celebrating women while tolerating systems, processes, and cultures that continue to value women as lesser and demand more from us to be considered equal seems hollow. If you have yet to hear the monologue from the Barbie movie, I encourage you to do so. The women in your life will likely nod and say, "Totally resonates with me!" I know that's how I feel every time I hear it.
What I'm Reading
In my "Starr Leadership is one year old" article, I mentioned that a key lesson learned was the importance of structure and rhythms. I was introduced to The Miracle Morning via my solo entrepreneur mastermind group. I downloaded the app and gave it a try. I did a 30-day challenge. I decided to undertake another 30-day challenge and another. After 90 days, I could see the benefits.

I upgraded from the free version to the paid version of the app. I'm currently reading "The Miracle Morning for Entrepreneurs." While I'm not getting up at 5 am, the daily SAVERS help me prioritize, take action towards my dreams, be productive, and remain balanced. There is also the general Miracle Morning book, as well as books tailored for parents, kids, salespeople, writers, and more. Check it out! (This recommendation does not sponsor me, nor have I benefited from it.)
